The challenge

The historical City House next to Leeds train station had sat empty for many years. After a competitive pitch, Bruntwood appointed Strive to design a new scheme for the building. Bruntwood wanted to adapt the property to suit modern businesses and create a platform that would enable ambitious entrepreneurs, start-ups and established businesses to thrive.

what we did

Our brief was to design a tech-savvy, mezzanine-level business lounge and co-working space, with associated meeting rooms, breakout spaces and smaller suites for tenants on the first and second floors.

It was clear that from start-ups to established brands, all businesses need similar things from a cohesive modern workspace. Primarily, they need a place to base themselves, a work address, somewhere to host client meetings and somewhere to concentrate. They also value access to presentation technologies, a professional environment to network in and a social environment that fosters interaction and collaboration. Our design reflects all these needs and offers users flexibility, co-working and privacy – all in one place.

Strive captured all of these requirements and assisted Bruntwood in creating one of Leeds premier serviced office and co-working facilities.

the result

Strive delivered a multi award winning scheme for Bruntwood that assisted in the building being 95% occupied within six months of completion.

Once the project started on site, Bruntwood further appointed Strive to fit out the third floor, which houses a new tech hub for Leeds, the fourth floor and part of the fifth floor.

Amongst other awards the project won the much publicised Yorkshire Property Awards ‘Game Changer’ of the Year for 2018.
